Kingsway Massage Therapy

Kingsway Massage Therapy

We live in a stress-filled world. You may be experiencing difficulties in your personal life, performing a high-pressure job, or simply dealing with the stresses of everyday life. Every time we experience stress, our bodies react by showering us with as many as 1,400 biochemicals. When stress occurs over and over again, harmful stress hormones can begin to cause permanent damage and premature aging. It's estimated that 43% of all adults are suffering from a stress-related illness. These include conditions such as: headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, asthma, arthritis, depression, and anxiety.

Massage has been clinically proven to lower the levels of stress hormones in the body, and to increase levels of endorphins, which can create a feeling of calm and wellbeing. Massage therapy is one of the fastest growing therapeutic treatments in the country. 35% of Ontarians have enjoyed the benefits of this low cost, non-invasive, highly effective health treatment.

Trying Massage Therapy

The Kingsway area boasts many clinics that offer massage therapy. Registered Massage Therapists in the Kingsway specialize in various types of massage, including Swedish massage, Shiatsu, That massage, aromatherapy, deep tissue massage, sports massage, pregnancy massage, and more. If you have never had a massage, isn't it time you tried it? The Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario provides a searchable list of RMTs on its website to help you get started.

What to Expect

First, choose a gentle type of massage. Swedish massage is a good introduction to the therapy. Be sure to book your appointment at a time that's convenient for you. You'll want to make sure you have time to relax afterward. Drink plenty of water in the days before your massage. Don't eat just before the session, and be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

Your RMT will ask you for a health history. This usually includes a questionnaire, followed by an interview. Be as honest and thorough as possible, and be sure to discuss any concerns you have with your massage therapist.

You will be escorted to a private room. Your RMT will leave the room in order for you to undress to your comfort level. You can then climb onto the massage table and cover yourself with the draping provided. The therapist will knock before reentering.

Generally, you will be lying on a massage table, covered by a sheet or a towel. The RMT will never expose your genitals or breasts. (If there are other areas you'd like to keep covered, be sure to tell him/her.) Only the area the therapist is working on will be uncovered.

Often the RMT will use massage oil and play gentle music. Let him/her know if you don't wish these elements to be used. You may choose to talk to the RMT, but you will find it more relaxing to concentrate on breathing and releasing tension.

After the massage, the therapist will leave the room so that you can get dressed. Take your time getting off the massage table, especially if you're feeling light-headed.

When you get home, drink water to help rid the body of toxins, and take it easy. The effects of massage tend to be cumulative, so regular appointments can help you feel your best.
